Clematis 'Scarlet Bells' is a new introduction from the Polish clematis specialist Szczepan Marczyński, launched in 2026. The fiery name promises scarlet red, yet what you actually get are delicate, bell-shaped flowers in soft pink – compact at 3 to 4 cm across, but produced in great numbers.
From June to October, 'Scarlet Bells' flowers almost continuously, making it one of the longest-blooming Integrifolia clematis. At 150 to 200 cm, it stays compact and does not climb by itself: it twines its leaf stalks around slender supports or weaves through neighbouring perennials – ideal for containers, trellises or border edges in sunny to semi-shaded spots, including east- and west-facing aspects.
'Scarlet Bells' is very winter-hardy (zone 4, down to about -34 °C) and copes well even in exposed locations. As it belongs to pruning group 3, cut the shoots back hard to about 10 cm in March, so the plant reshoots vigorously and flowers abundantly. As a 2026 novelty it also carries plant breeders' rights (PBR); little long-term garden experience is available yet.
