Clematis 'Mystic River' is a 2025 introduction from the Polish nursery of Szczepan Marczyński, one of Europe's best-known clematis breeders. The cultivar belongs to the Integrifolia Group of herbaceous clematis and bears large, 8-10 cm flowers in violet-pink, with a subtly contrasting, darker central bar on the tepals.
From July to September, 'Mystic River' produces a continuous succession of new flowers on the current year's growth. At around 150 cm it stays pleasantly compact and suits beds, the front of borders and larger containers well – as its stems do not climb by themselves, they benefit from a support or a neighbouring shrub to lean on.
'Mystic River' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). For vigorous regrowth and abundant flowering, cut the plant back to about 10 cm in March – as with all herbaceous clematis, this hard pruning encourages flowering throughout the whole season. As a fresh introduction it is also noted for being particularly healthy and robust.
