Clematis 'Königin Maxima' was bred in 2010 by the Dutch nursery P. van Well en Zonen and introduced to Germany in 2013 by Clematiskulturen F.M. Westphal; it is named after Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. As a member of the texensis group, it bears small, tulip-shaped, unscented flowers in vivid red, 6–7 cm across, with the slightly twisted tepals typical of this group.
From June to September, 'Königin Maxima' produces a steady succession of new flowers. At around 200 cm, it stays compact enough for containers on balconies and patios, but can equally be trained on small trellises and climbing frames. It rewards a sunny spot with well-drained soil and a shaded root run – typical of the texensis group – with abundant flowering.
'Königin Maxima' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). As it belongs to pruning group 3, cut the stems back hard to about 25 cm in March – this encourages fresh growth from last year's wood and a rich display of flowers. With proper care, it shows good resistance to disease.

grows in a container on the balconyI've had this clematis in a container on the balcony for three years. I prune it in March as instructed. So far it keeps sprouting again and also gets flowers. It hasn't had any diseases so far.Automatically translated · Show original
