Clematis 'White Pearl' was introduced in 2016 by the Dutch nursery J. van Zoest BV and resembles the well-known variety 'Miss Bateman', though it flowers noticeably more freely. Its 8-12 cm white flowers show a faint darker central bar and an attractive contrast from the dark red stamens; in spring the flowers usually have 8 petals, while the later flush often shows only 6.
The main flowering period runs from May to June, followed by a second, somewhat lighter flush from August to October. At around 200 cm in height, 'White Pearl' is well suited to trellises, obelisks and other supports, and grows just as happily in a container.
'White Pearl' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm after the first flowering in June, so it puts out vigorous new growth and flowers richly again in late summer.
