Clematis 'Peveril Pearl' was bred in 1979 by the English breeder Barry Fretwell and belongs to the early-flowering patens hybrids. Its huge, 15–20 cm flowers appear in a delicate pale pink with slightly darker bars on each petal, complemented by pinkish-brown stamens.
Growing to around 250 cm, 'Peveril Pearl' is well suited to trellises, obelisks and climbing frames on walls, as well as cultivation in a large container. The first flowers open as early as June, followed in summer by a second flush lasting until September. The variety does best in semi-shade, where its delicate flower colour stays strongest for longest.
'Peveril Pearl' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to around 100 cm after its first flush in June — this encourages strong new growth and a further flush of flowers into autumn.
