Clematis 'Xerxes' is a large-flowered clematis with single blue flowers 10–12 cm across. They open in a star shape and give the plant its moment in early summer.
The first flowering appears in June, followed by a second flush from July to August. At around 300 cm, 'Xerxes' climbs reliably up trellises, pergolas and frames, making it suitable for taller walls and fences as well.
'Xerxes' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). For vigorous growth and a rich flowering, cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June; a light prune is enough (pruning group 2).
