The clematis 'Vilhelmine' comes from Latvian breeder L. Bakevicius, who selected the cultivar back in Soviet times, and is named after the clematis collector Vilhelmine Riekstina. Its flowers open pure white, carry a pleasant fragrance and reach a diameter of 8 to 10 cm.
From July to September, 'Vilhelmine' displays its floral splendour, bringing colour to the garden just when many early-summer bloomers have already finished. Growing to around 250 cm, it climbs vigorously on trellises, lattice or obelisks and also does well in a large container on balcony or terrace. A sunny to partly shaded spot with cool roots suits it well.
'Vilhelmine' is hardy to zone 6 (around -23 to -18 °C) and copes easily with winters in most German locations. Cut the plant back to about 25 cm in March so it sprouts vigorously and flowers abundantly.
