The clematis 'Fuyu-No-Tabi' was raised in 1994 by the Japanese breeder Masako Takeuchi. Its name means 'travel in winter'. The flowers are exceptionally large at 15-18 cm, usually made up of eight oval sepals and coloured creamy white. In the centre, crimson anthers on creamy filaments add a fine accent.
The first flush appears from May to June, followed by a second, somewhat more restrained flowering in summer until September. Growing 200-250 cm tall, 'Fuyu-No-Tabi' suits trellises, fences, pergolas and obelisks and also thrives in a large container. It looks best in a sunny spot against a dark background.
'Fuyu-No-Tabi' is very hardy (zone 4, down to around -34 °C). Cut the plant back to about 150 cm in March; this corresponds to the light pruning of pruning group 2.
