Clematis 'Morning Star' was bred by Dutch nurseryman Wim Snoeijer and introduced in 2007. Its 10–14 cm flowers appear in a delicate pale pink-white with a pink edge, set off by pale pink filaments and yellow anthers; the 6 to 8 pointed, overlapping tepals give the flower a clean, upright shape.
'Morning Star' flowers twice a year: the first flush appears between May and June, the second from July to September. At around 200 cm, its compact, bushy habit makes it well suited to trellises, obelisks and other supports, as well as container growing. It thrives in full sun or partial shade and copes with most garden soils.
'Morning Star' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm after the first flowering in June to encourage its compact habit and a generous second flush. It may take two to five years to reach its full height — give it time to establish.
