Clematis 'Love Jewelry' comes from the Japanese breeder Kozo Sugimoto. Its 10–15 cm flowers are pink and marked with darker stripes on the twisted petals, the edges looking slightly wavy. The result is a floral jewel that pleases up close as much as from a distance.
'Love Jewelry' flowers from May to June and shows a second flush in July. At around 200 cm tall it suits trellises and obelisks, which it holds on to with its leaf stalks, and also a sufficiently large container. It grows in full sun as well as in partial shade; keep the root area cool and moist but well drained.
'Love Jewelry' is hardy (zone 6, -23.3 to -17.8 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June. Plant it so that the crown sits 5–8 cm below the soil surface; this encourages shoots from below ground. Wear gloves when handling it, as the sap can irritate the skin.
