Clematis 'Gladys Picard' was bred by English nurseryman Jim Fisk at his nursery in Suffolk and introduced in 1975; it is named after one of the nursery's secretaries. Its 12–15 cm flowers are white with a violet tinge, with wavy, slightly frilled petal edges and yellowish stamens.
From June to July, 'Gladys Picard' flowers in almost any aspect. At around 300 cm, it suits trellises and other supports well, grows in a compact, herbaceous habit, is attractively leaved, and thrives easily in containers too. For the richest flower colour, choose a sunny to semi-shaded, sheltered spot where the roots stay cool and shaded.
'Gladys Picard' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). As a member of pruning group 2, cut it back lightly to about 50 cm in March — this encourages fresh growth and keeps it flowering freely.

I have had Gladys Picard for about 4 years and transplanted her once during that time (in the middle of summer). The clematis is perfectly healthy and has come through every winter so far without any problems. Even though I can only offer her a spot in partial shade, she flowers abundantly every year. A highly recommendable variety.Automatically translated · Show original
