Clematis 'Destiny' was raised by breeder Willem Straver in 2001, first flowered in 2002, was named in 2003 and reached the market in 2007. Its 8–10 cm flowers are pearly white, made up of six overlapping elliptic tepals; the pale purple-brown anthers sit on greenish filaments that fade to white.
'Destiny' flowers first from May to June and once more from July to August. At around 200 cm it suits trellises, obelisks and other supports and also thrives in a container, provided the pot is at least 45 cm deep. It grows from full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil; keep the root zone shaded with neighbouring plants or a layer of stones.
'Destiny' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Plant the crown 5–8 cm deep so that the plant shoots again from below ground. For vigorous growth and rich flowering, cut it back to about 75 cm in June.
