Clematis 'Debutante' was bred in 1988 by British breeder Frank Watkinson and introduced in 1990. The flowers open in a vivid pink (described in the original as "shocking pink") and reach 12 to 15 cm across.
'Debutante' flowers twice: from May to June and, after a short pause, again in July. At around 200 cm, it is well suited to trellises, lattices or obelisks, even in smaller gardens, and can equally be grown in a large container. It prefers a rather shaded position, for example against a semi-shaded wall.
'Debutante' is reliably hardy (zone 6, -23.3 to -17.8 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June after its first flush of flowers — it will resprout vigorously and bloom again in July.
