Japanese wisteria ‘Kuchi-beni’
Wisteria floribunda ‘Kuchi-beni’ is a vigorous climber with light pink, grape-like flower clusters that appear in May. The plant reaches a height of 6–10 m with annual growth of 1–3 m. Pinnate green leaves turn yellow in autumn, and the shoots twine securely around climbing supports.
‘Kuchi-beni’ thrives best in sunny, sheltered locations on moderately moist, nutrient-poor soils. The plant needs sturdy pergolas, trellises or wall structures to develop at its best. The first flowers form after a few years, and in severe winters a light pruning may be necessary. Hardiness: zone 6A–8.
