Japanese wisteria 'Multijuga'

Wisteria floribunda 'Multijuga' is a vigorously growing climber with long, violet, raceme-like flower clusters that appear in May and June. The flower clusters reach a length of 40–80 cm, and in August individual flowers form in addition. The plant reaches a height of 6–10 m with annual growth of 1–3 m and twines its shoots anticlockwise around supports.

Pinnate green leaves turn yellow in autumn. 'Multijuga' thrives best in sunny, sheltered locations on moderately moist, moderately nutrient-poor soils. Sturdy supports such as pergolas, trellises or wall structures are required for optimal development. The first flowers form after 3–4 years. In severe winters a light pruning may be necessary. Hardiness: zone 6A–8.
