Japanese wisteria ‘Honbeni’
Wisteria floribunda ‘Honbeni’ is an impressive climber with long, pink, raceme-like flower clusters of up to 35 cm that appear in May. In August, individual flowers follow, extending the flowering period. The plant grows vigorously, twining anticlockwise, and reaches a height of 6–10 m with annual growth of 1–3 m. Pinnate green leaves turn yellow in autumn.
‘Honbeni’ thrives best in sunny, sheltered sites in moderately nutrient-poor, moist soils. The first flowers form from the 3rd–4th year after planting. This variety is particularly suited to sturdy pergolas, climbing frames or other strong supports. Hardiness: zone 6A–8.
