Clematis 'Queen of Holland' was bred in 1996 by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer and introduced in 2005. It was named to commemorate a visit by the Dutch queen to Boskoop in 2003. The 4 to 8 cm flowers open violet-blue with a delicate purple flush at the tip of the sepals, complemented by yellow stamens on cream filaments that are violet-blue at the base.
From June to September, 'Queen of Holland' flowers on the current season's growth. Reaching around 200 cm, it suits trellises, obelisks or trellage, and also thrives in containers on balconies and terraces.
'Queen of Holland' is reliably hardy (zone 5, -28.8 to -23.4 °C). Cut back hard to about 25 cm in March; it belongs to pruning group 3, where all of the previous year's growth is removed and flowers form on the new shoots.
