Clematis 'White Moth' was introduced in 1955 by the English breeder Rowland Jackman at George Jackman & Son. Clematis macropetala is one parent. Its nodding, bell-shaped flowers are double and pure white; the lance-shaped sepals, curled back at the tips, measure 4 to 6 cm across, with creamy-white stamens showing delicately through.
'White Moth' flowers on last year's wood from April to May and reaches a height of around 300 cm. This makes it well suited to trellises, fences, pergolas and small shrubs, and it also thrives in a sufficiently large container. Plant it in sun to partial shade in fresh, well-drained soil; keep the base and roots of the plant cool and shaded.
'White Moth' is reliably hardy (zone 5, -28.8 to -23.4 °C) and tolerates any aspect. As a spring bloomer on old wood, cut your plant back to about 100 cm in June to encourage compact growth and abundant flowering the following year. Wear gloves when pruning, as the sap can irritate the skin.
