Clematis koreana 'Love Child' traces back to a selection made by Swedish collector Tomas Lagerström, who found the original plant in 1976 during a Nordic Arboretum expedition to South Korea, where it arose as a selection of the wild species Clematis chiisanensis. The nodding, bell-shaped flowers appear 6-7 cm across in bright yellow and give off a delicate fragrance.
'Love Child' flowers from May to August on both last year's and the current season's wood, which noticeably extends the flowering period. Growing to around 250 cm, this clematis climbs vigorously on trellises, trellis panels and obelisks, and is also well suited to growing in a large container.
'Love Child' is reliably hardy (zone 5, -28.8 to -23.4 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm in March to encourage vigorous new growth and abundant flowering.
