Wisteria frutescens 'Longwood Purple' belongs to the wisterias (Wisteria), flowering climbing plants for pergolas, fences and façades.
The American wisteria (Wisteria frutescens) is frost-hardy and grows to about 5–6 m tall. It bears pinnate leaves and racemose inflorescences, prefers sunny positions and is hardy in hardiness zones 5–9. Sturdy supports such as pergolas, trellises or wall structures are important for its development; the first flowers appear after a few years.
