The wild rose ‘Rosa sericea pteracantha’ has unique, fern-like foliage. At least as spectacular, however, are its large, broad thorns which are translucent when young and glow red in the low morning and evening sun. The small, white blooms and the red rose hips that follow make it a rewarding, natural-looking rose. It is also often called the 'barbed wire rose'.
