The white, double Rosa banksiae 'Alba Plena' is one of the most elegant old climbing roses and, at the same time, a botanical curiosity: the same species also produced the most famous specimen in Arizona, today considered the largest rose in the world. Another special feature is that it is almost evergreen, meaning it does not lose its foliage in winter.
Its small, cream-white, densely double blooms appear in late spring, have a light violet-like fragrance, and sit on almost thornless, long canes that can effortlessly reach unexpected dimensions - though, due to its limited frost hardiness, only in a favourable climate or a cold house.
Originally introduced from China and cultivated in Europe since the early 19th century, it combines a delicate appearance with vigorous growth - a simple, timeless choice for anyone looking for a low-maintenance, lushly growing and exceptional climbing rose.
