Clematis montana 'Margaret Jones' was selected by the British breeder Anne Smyth of Norfolk, named after her mother and introduced by Ruth Gooch in 1991. It is one of the rare double-flowered forms of the Himalayan clematis: instead of the four simple tepals typical of Clematis montana, 'Margaret Jones' bears several rows of narrow, pure white tepals on 4–6 cm flowers.
Like most montana varieties, 'Margaret Jones' flowers freely in May and June on the previous year's growth. At around 400 cm, it is well suited to quickly covering trellises, pergolas, fences or house walls, and thrives in both sunny and partially shaded positions.
'Margaret Jones' is reliably hardy (zone 7, down to about -17.7 to -12.3 °C) and, once established, grows vigorously with little care. Cut it back to about 100 cm in June, right after flowering – this keeps growth compact and encourages abundant blooms the following year.
