Clematis 'White Prince Charles' was introduced in 2007 by Japanese breeder Kozo Sugimoto. Its star-shaped flowers open pure white, often with a delicate pink flush toward the centre, while the reverse of the broad, pointed sepals shows fine purple-pink midribs. With a diameter of 8 to 12 cm and slightly frayed sepals that curl back at the tips, each flower looks like a small work of art.
From July to September, 'White Prince Charles' flowers abundantly. At a height of 200 to 250 cm it is ideally suited to trellises, obelisks and large containers, as well as for covering fences and pergolas. It thrives best in a sunny to partly shaded position, with the root area kept cool and shaded.
'White Prince Charles' is reliably hardy (zone 5, down to about -28.8 °C). It belongs to pruning group 3 and is cut back hard to about 25 cm in March – this encourages bushy growth and abundant flowering and keeps care straightforward.
