Clematis 'Yukikomachi' was raised by the Japanese breeder Chieko Kurasawa and first published in 1984. Its 8–10 cm flowers are white with a pale violet edge: the six to eight broad, pointed sepals overlap slightly at the base, are gently cupped and carry a white central bar. Greenish-yellow stamens add a fine accent at the centre of the flower.
At around 200 cm, 'Yukikomachi' stays relatively compact and suits trellises, obelisks and other supports as well as a container on the patio. It flowers from June to August. Plant it in partial shade, sheltered from strong sun, where the delicate flower colour keeps its freshness.
'Yukikomachi' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). After the first flowering, cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June; in early spring it is enough to remove dead and weak shoots.

Since I miss reports on this wonderful clematis, I'm posting a photo from 4.8.2010. I can only recommend this clematis.. it is beautiful and so strong and free-flowering. I now have it in its 2nd year. When I planted it in 2009 it flowered, but of course it was still small.. and this year, after the harsh, long winter, I thought it was gone.. I couldn't see a single shoot. It is underplanted with cranesbill, and when I looked again after a while, I found two very strong shoots.. so beautiful!.. I was glad I hadn't thrown it out.
Patience, a virtue I really want to learn.. Yukikomachi showed me that.
By the way, I now have 8 clematis, each more beautiful than the last.. unfortunately my garden is small..
Oh, and one more thing: cranesbill is wonderful for underplanting and shading the base.. and so versatile.. I now have 8 varieties of that too.. and would love to have so much more..
Such a long report, because I found nothing about "Yukikomachi".. and this clematis deserves attention ;0)Automatically translated · Show original
