Clematis 'Star Fish' — also sold as 'Starfish' — is the variety offered in the UK and Germany, and it differs clearly from an unrelated American cultivar of the same name with white, pink-flushed flowers. Its 10-15 cm flowers are violet, with pink anthers on white filaments.
At around 200 cm, 'Star Fish' suits trellises, obelisks and other supports, and also thrives in containers. It flowers from June to July, putting on a striking violet display in a sunny to semi-shaded spot.
'Star Fish' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). For vigorous growth and abundant flowering, cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June.
