Clematis 'Nelly Moser' was bred in 1897 by the French nursery Moser et Fils from a cross of 'Bélisaire' and 'Marcel Moser', and remains one of the best-known large-flowered clematis varieties to this day. Its large flowers, up to 20 cm across in good conditions, are pale pink with a bold violet central bar on each of the six to eight sepals, set off by reddish-purple stamens.
'Nelly Moser' flowers twice a year: from May to June, and again from July to September. At around 250 cm, it is well suited to obelisks, trellises and arches, and grows equally well in containers. Since direct sun quickly fades the bar's colour, it shows to best effect in semi-shaded spots — for instance against north-, east- or west-facing walls.
'Nelly Moser' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June to encourage vigorous growth and a rich second flush. Since its introduction in 1897 it has stood as a dependable, time-tested garden classic, and was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

I've had Nelly Moser since May this year. She's supposed to grow into an ornamental cherry. She already gave me 3 flowers at the end of May, which unfortunately were eaten after a while (beetles or the like?). So I might have to treat her with some product...? Otherwise she's sprouting well again and is now about 1.60 m tall. The flowers are very large and have a wonderful color.Automatically translated · Show original
A great clematis! Piilu has been with me for 3 years. She took this year's transplanting very well, which you can tell from how freely she flowers. She is very robust, easy to care for and now about 1.70 m tall.Automatically translated · Show original
