Clematis 'Marmori' comes from the breeders U. and A. Kivistik in Estonia. It was raised in 1986 as a cross of 'Hagley Hybrid' and 'Roogoja', flowered for the first time in 1989 and was named in 1990. The name is Estonian for “marble” – fitting the markings of the flowers: the roughly 10 cm blooms are pink with darker dots, the tepals have wavy edges, and cream filaments carry deep purple-brown anthers.
'Marmori' flowers from July to September and reaches about 200 cm in height, so it suits trellises, obelisks and other supports. It grows in full sun to partial shade and copes with any aspect. Keep the root zone cool and shaded with neighbouring plants or a layer of pebbles, and plant it with the crown 5–8 cm deep so that it shoots again from below ground.
'Marmori' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Since it flowers on the current season's growth, cut it back to about 25 cm in March – it then shoots up vigorously in summer.

I have it on my north-facing balcony, where it only gets direct sun for about an hour a day. It blooms profusely, already had more than 100 flowers of different sizes, which at first show a strong pink center stripe that slowly fades. The flower turns mauve. The foliage is strong and healthy. A showpiece, especially in this shimmering richness of color.Automatically translated · Show original
