Clematis 'Expander' is a 2025 introduction from Polish breeder Szczepan Marczyński's nursery Źródło Dobrych Pnączy, specialists in Integrifolia varieties. Its flowers are unusually large for the Integrifolia Group at 8 to 10 cm across, glowing in a deep, rich pink. Plant breeders' rights (PBR) protect 'Expander' as a distinct cultivar.
The main flush runs from June to July, with a further flowering in October. As a herbaceous clematis, 'Expander' does not climb; instead it forms a compact, bushy clump 100 to 150 cm tall — ideal for sunny borders and bed edges, as a companion for roses and perennials, or in large containers on patios and balconies.
With hardiness zone 4 (down to about -34 °C), 'Expander' copes reliably with harsh winters. Cut the plant back hard to about 10 cm in March — this hard prune encourages compact regrowth and an abundant flush of flowers the following season.
