Clematis 'Marinka' goes back to the Dutch breeder R. Zwijnenburg (raised 1989, named 1991); its parents are listed as Clematis potaninii var. fargesii and Clematis stans. Its scented flowers, about 3–4 cm across, are small and bell-shaped at first, then open further into 4–6 recurved tepals in white with a slight blue flush on the outside.
'Marinka' flowers from July to August and grows as an upright herbaceous clematis to about 120 cm, without climbing – typical of the heracleifolia group. This makes it a good, low-maintenance choice for borders and beds, and it also thrives in containers.
'Marinka' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). For vigorous growth and abundant flowering, cut the plant back to about 25 cm in March.
