Clematis 'LITTLE LEMONS' comes from the Dutch nursery Jan van Zoest and was launched in 2019, when it was immediately awarded a gold medal for best new introduction. Its numerous nodding, bell-shaped flowers open in pure yellow, creating an attractive contrast with the green foliage; after flowering, the shoot tips develop attractive, fluffy seed heads that are also popular with bees.
From May to September, 'LITTLE LEMONS' produces its flowers in great abundance – unusually for its group, it stays very compact at 20 to 30 cm, although individual shoots can occasionally reach 50 cm. This compact yet free-flowering habit makes it ideal for pots, hanging baskets and window boxes; it thrives in a sunny to partly shaded position with well-drained soil.
'LITTLE LEMONS' is reliably hardy (zone 5, down to about -28.8 °C) and belongs to pruning group 3: cut the shoots back to about 10 cm in March so the plant sprouts vigorously and flowers reliably on the current year's growth.
