'Angelique' resulted from a cross between 'Royalty' and 'Silver Moon' and was selected by British breeders R. J. Evison and M. N. Olesen; it was introduced in 2002 as part of the 'Boulevard' collection. Its large, single, lightly scented flowers open in a delicate violet-blue with pointed, slightly wavy tepals, white filaments and yellow anthers with a reddish connective. At 10 to 15 cm across, 'Angelique' ranks among the large-flowered cultivars.
'Angelique' flowers from May to October, with blooms appearing right from the base of the plant. With a compact height of 100 to 120 cm, it is ideal for growing in containers on balconies and patios, but also works well on small trellises, obelisks or low supports in the border. Plant it in a sunny to partly shaded spot and keep the root zone cool, for example with ground cover or neighbouring perennials.
'Angelique' is reliably hardy (zone 4, down to about -34.4 to -28.9 °C), making it suitable for exposed sites too. Cut the stems back to around 25 cm in March to encourage bushy, compact growth with flowers right from the base.
