Clematis x cartmanii 'White Abundance' was bred in 1994 by British nurseryman A. R. White from a cross between 'White Cascade' and 'Avalanche', and like its parents belongs to the evergreen Forsteri Group. Its numerous small, fragrant flowers open cream-white to pale green, with brown anthers on yellow-green filaments, and reach 4 to 5 cm across.
'White Abundance' flowers abundantly from April to May and grows vigorously to 200-250 cm tall - noticeably taller than its relative 'Avalanche'. This makes it well suited to trellises, wall-mounted supports or generous containers in sunny to partly shaded, sheltered spots; like the whole Forsteri Group, it prefers well-drained, gritty soil.
The variety is only moderately hardy (zone 8, down to about -12 °C) and benefits from winter protection or container culture in exposed locations. For a compact habit, cutting back to about 75 cm in May is recommended; however, as an early-flowering group (pruning group 1), no regular pruning is required.
