Ulrich Brunner is very healthy with us, grows upright and blooms profusely. The fragrance is good and the repeat flush was very good too. The color turns almost pink, as can be seen well in the photo. Lightly pruned, it reaches a height of a good 1.50 m.

Wonderful rose, but not "carefree"Two years ago I learned the name for the first time, in the Rosengarten Zweibrücken, of the rose that has stood in my garden since about the year 1900. My great-grandfather found this rose in the demolition field of a quarry where he worked and brought it home. Since then it has died off twice (now I know it was nutrient deficiency - no wonder, after almost 100 years in the same spot), each time it "reinvented" itself after almost 2 years, and I have now dug it up and put it in fresh, nutrient-rich soil. What has remained, however, is that after a short while it is again susceptible to black spot despite sufficient air between the plants. I can't get the better of it even with fertiliser/manure. So I take the trouble and simply pick off the diseased leaves and burn them. With 16 plants that takes a while. I haven't managed with sprays either, despite my "plant protection officer" training. I leave the aphids to the ladybirds. It doesn't look appetising in the first year, but from the 2nd year the ladybirds are ready for action. 2 tit nesting boxes do the rest of the pest control. Tits feed their young with aphids. Conclusion: don't give up, even if it sometimes looks hopeless and unsightly as far as the leaves are concerned. This rewarding and wonderful rose is simply worth fighting for. (Black spot -> Wikipedia). And black spot, I had it explained to me, is wanted by nature, to give the developing rose hips sun and light to ripen through the loss of the leaves. Everything has its meaning in nature.Automatically translated · Show original
