Hybrid Perpetual Roses

The Hybrid Perpetual roses (bot. Rosa hybrida bifera) are the link between the old and modern roses. Almost all important rose classes were involved in their origin. Many of the ´Old Roses´ flower only once. With the new, repeat-flowering roses, the splendour of bloom was extended into autumn. The roses, which arose mainly in the second half of the 19th century and are also known as Hybrid Perpetuals, were shown a great deal at rose exhibitions in Victorian times.

Pure white, pink, crimson, purple, red and two-coloured, mostly with a good fragrance, they form shrubs of about 100 to 180 cm in height. Quite a few of the Hybrid Perpetual roses also like to climb.
