Yes - if only the beauty had left it at 10 m long branches/canes!
Of course Kiftsgate is a real personality, and in flower a dream with many thousands of white stars - a bee pasture, so that the whole garden hums already in the morning.
But because after 20 years it really can't be tamed any more, we have now begun to saw off the arm-thick trunks. Only one main trunk will be left. This hurts not just the rose - -

The first rose we planted in our garden was Rosa filipes Kiftsgate. Together with the clematis Mrs. Cholmondeley it climbs the big rose arbour walkway. I really wonder where it still wants to go. In early summer it is a wonderful, airy sight - as if everything were strewn with small white apple blossoms. We haven't pruned it so far. After flowering, since it is once-flowering, the lavender-coloured clematis is the star of the rose arch. If you don't prune it, Kiftsgate sets beautiful ornamental rose hips, is easy to care for and exceptionally vigorous.

Mine has been growing into an old apple tree for a year now, and the longest shoots are about 3-4 metres. The rose is great. I'm curious about the flowering next year. Highly recommended. Alexandra

At flowering time my friend came with a twig she had cut from a climbing rose in her garden and was enchanted by the small fragrant flowers resembling apple blossoms. She asked me whether I knew the name of this rose. The answer was very close, because R. filipes Kiftsgate was just flowering in my garden, too.
Even if this rose flowers only once, it is absolutely recommendable if you have enough space. At the moment it adorns the rose arch with very small, wonderful rose hips in the brightest red.

A monster!
The rose has been in my grandparents' former garden, which is mine now, for 55 years and it is indestructible, neither by frost nor by drastic pruning. Unfortunately it also self-seeds heavily and the newly emerging roses would love to overgrow the whole garden; I can hardly keep up with pulling them out. It blooms fiercely but rather briefly. I would rather plant a less vigorous rose; this one is a monster that wants to take over! Trained into a big tree it is certainly beautiful, but there really has to be a lot of space!
