Clematis 'WHITE ARABELLA' (breeder's code Zo14089) is a seedling of the well-known blue-violet 'Arabella' (Fretwell, 1990), raised by Wim Snoeijer and introduced in 2014 by the Dutch nursery J. van Zoest. The 5 to 7 cm pure white flowers with pale yellow stamens often appear semi-double at the first flowering in late spring, then single at the second flush in late summer.
'WHITE ARABELLA' flowers from June to September and stays pleasantly compact at around 150 cm. Like its parent 'Arabella', it does not climb on its own but scrambles or trails – ideal as ground cover, over low shrubs, or lightly supported along a fence or in a border. It also does well in a large container on a patio or balcony. It likes sun to semi-shade, with the roots and base kept cool and shaded.
'WHITE ARABELLA' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C) and easy to care for: cut it back close to the ground to about 10 cm in March, and it will break strongly in spring and flower reliably all summer.
