Portland Roses

Towards the end of the 18th century in Italy, a new rose arose from a cross between an autumn damask rose and a Rosa chinensis. It was christened ´Duchesse of Portland´ after the Duchess of Portland, who brought it to England.

The flowers appear in soft pink through carmine to purple-red, with an intense damask fragrance. Many varieties of these compact-growing bushes flower again in late summer.
