What are flower sprouts?
Flower Sprouts, also called Kalettes (Kohlröschen in German), are a popular cross between kale and Brussels sprouts. The hardy plants, grown from seed in the vegetable garden, reach 80 - 100 cm in height. The ripe flower sprouts can be harvested several times from October to November.
Flower Sprout seeds should be bought in winter or early spring. After a germination period of 10 days, the pre-cultivation of the flower sprouts begins in March. The plants can be planted out from April. They develop quickly and give an abundant yield over the autumn months. With good growing plans, nothing stands in the way of preparing tasty and healthy winter dishes with the vitamin-rich flower sprouts.
