Roses for the shade

Not every spot in the garden is sunny, but although roses are children of the sun, with a little care in choosing the variety a good candidate can be found even for shady corners or a north-facing wall.

Here you will find recommendations for roses that tolerate at least partial shade; some of them also grow with even less light. You will find more precise information on location in the variety descriptions of the shade roses.

What will be the case for all roses planted in the shade, however, is slower growth, one to two years longer until they are fully established, and later, usually less abundant flowering.

Our recommendations for shade-tolerant roses are given without guarantee and make no claim to completeness; if a rose variety from our range that is not yet listed here grows well for you in a shady spot, we would be glad to receive a short e-mail (and of course likewise if an error has crept in).
